Work has now started on the third and largest phase, Eldon Square South, comprising 410,000sq ft (38,089m²) of retail space.

The development involves the demolition of the existing shopping centre mall between Clayton Street and Newgate Street and rebuilt to provide a new Debenhams department store and two-level modern shops along a wider mall. Work will be completed in Spring 2010.
